Funky
Hunting.
A bespoke Mount Starling artwork for Georg Freiherr von Hammerstein-Loxten — created for the hunting room at Schloss Aufhausen near Munich.

THE SETTING
A castle made for celebrations.
Schloss Aufhausen has been in the family for five generations. Together with his wife, Georg Freiherr von Hammerstein-Loxten has continued the tradition of opening the estate to guests and developed the historic ensemble into a distinctive wedding and event destination near Munich — with a Baroque chapel, park, historic halls and a private wedding suite.

A classic hunting motif — deliberately reinterpreted.
The historic room called for something connected to hunting without becoming nostalgic. Mount Starling transformed two stags into a vivid contemporary ceiling piece: playful, unexpected and unmistakably at home inside the carved timber architecture.

DETAILS
The energy lives in the close-ups.
Scale, colour and the interaction between the two animals give the work its tension. These details show the graphic treatment more clearly than repeating the full installation.

COLOUR STUDIES
One motif.
Several personalities.
Colour was part of the commission from the beginning. Before production, Mount Starling developed a series of alternative colourways so the client could choose the version that felt right for the room and for him personally.

THE RESULT
Historic setting.
Contemporary character.
The final work turns the ceiling into the visual centre of the hunting room without competing with its historic architecture.
Funky Hunting shows how Mount Starling can build a highly individual visual statement from the story, personality and physical character of one specific place.
