LIFE IN VENICE
Vittore Carpaccio, also sometimes called Vittorio (circa 1465 - 1525/1526), was an Italian painter, a citizen of the Republic of Venice. He was one of the protagonists of the production of canvases in Venice at the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, becoming perhaps the best witness of the life, customs and extraordinary aspect of the Serenissima in those years.
The painting probably shows Francesco Maria della Rovere, 3rd Duke of Urbino. The young knight of the armor who is about to extract the sword. The flora and fauna depicted in the background contains references to good and evil in the biblical sense.
