PIETER BRUEGEL
THE DROLL

Pieter Bruegel the Elder  (* probably around 1525/1530 in Breda, † September 9, 1569 in Brussels), also known as the "droll" was a leading painter of the Dutch Renaissance. He is commonly known for his portrayals of peasant life in the Duchy of Brabant (Netherlands and Flanders) in the 16th century.

FISH

What impresses in Bruegel's masterful portrayal of the proverb: "big fish eat small fish" most, is the proverbial portrayal of small fish tumbling out of the slashed belly of a giant fish.
