JOOS VAN CRAESBEECK

OBSERVER OF
THE WHIMSICAL

Joos van Craesbeeck, (* 1605 in Neerlinter in Brabant, † 1654-1661 in Brussels), was a Flemish painter and very well known for his genre painting. A master of small scenes, a little people's observer. Later, Craesbeeck has increasingly turned to religious themes in his painting.

FROM HELL

ABYSSES OF SOUL

The temptation of St. Anthony is a classic motif of Flemish painting. Jost van Craesbeek's painting from 1630, is certainly heavily inspired by Hieronymos Bosch. Evidently there is a great deal in the figure of Antonius of the painter himself.
